What is it?

An hour of training together, with a coach keeping an eye on you

In a group class you train with your own bodyweight: pull-ups, push-ups, dips, squats and everything in between. The coach builds up the class, watches your technique and gives you exactly the variant that suits you.

That is what makes the group class so good: one person does their first push-up on their knees, another works on a muscle-up, and you are simply standing next to each other. You do not need to be able to do anything to join in, and you will not be bored if you are further along.

  • Always your level. Every exercise has an easier and a harder variant.
  • Small groups. So the coach really sees your technique and can correct it.
  • Dutch and English. The coach switches effortlessly, so everyone can join in.
  • No equipment needed. Come in comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water.
The class

What a group class looks like

Every class is different, but the structure is always the same. So you know exactly what to expect.

  1. 1
    ± 10 minutes

    Warm-up

Easing into it, loosening the joints and getting your body ready for what is coming. Also the moment to catch up with everyone else.

  2. 2
    ± 15 minutes

    Technique & skills

The block where you really learn something. We work on one movement, for example a pull-up, a handstand or a dip. The coach walks around to correct your form.

  3. 3
    ± 25 minutes

    The workout

This is where you sweat. A workout in rounds or blocks, where everyone does the same exercise in the variant that suits their level.

  4. 4
    ± 5 minutes

    Cool-down

Winding down gently, stretching and mobility, so you are not stiff tomorrow. And of course a bit of a chat before you head home.

Who it is for

Wherever you are, you can join in

We do not run separate beginner and advanced classes. Everyone trains in the same class, at their own level.

Most people start here

You are just starting

Never done a pull-up? That is fine. You learn the basics: hanging, pulling, pushing and standing stable. All with aids or easier variants, until you can do it on your own.

  • Push-ups, rows and squats
  • Working towards your first pull-up
Building on

You are already going

The basics are there and you want more reps, more strength and better technique. We make the exercises harder, play with tempo and build calmly towards your first skills.

  • More strength and better technique
  • First steps towards skills
Challenge

You are going for skills

Handstand, muscle-up, front lever, human flag. You build skills in small steps, with progressions the coach adapts to your level, and with people around you working towards the same thing.

  • Progressions for each skill
  • Focused feedback on technique

There is always your version

That is the whole idea behind calisthenics: you do not need weights to train heavier or lighter, because you simply change the angle, the leverage or the number of points of support. A push-up against the bar, on your knees, on the ground or with your feet raised. It is the same exercise, at four levels. That is why everyone can join the same class and still grow a little every week.

What you learn

From your first pull-up to the human flag

The basics come back in every class. Alongside that we work in blocks towards skills. These are the movements that look impressive, but that you simply build up step by step.

  • Pull-up
  • Push-up
  • Dip
  • Squat
  • L-sit
  • Handstand
  • Muscle-up
  • Front lever
  • Human flag

You come for the training, but you stay for the people.

Questions about the group classes

How long does a group class last?
An hour. That includes a warm-up, a block of technique or skills, the workout and a calm cool-down with mobility and stretching.
Do I need to be fit or strong to join?
No, really not. Every exercise has an easier and a harder variant, so you always train at your own level. Most people come in without any experience at all.
How big are the groups?
Deliberately small. That way the coach can really see your technique, correct you and have a quick personal word with you every class. You are not a number in a hall.
What should I bring?
Comfortable sportswear, shoes you can move in and a bottle of water. That is all. We train outdoors, so check the weather and dress for the temperature.
Can I train in both cities?
Yes. With an unlimited membership or a class pass you simply train in both Amsterdam and Zaandam, whichever suits you that week.
Do the classes go ahead when it rains?
We train outdoors and carry on in most kinds of weather. A bit of rain only makes it more fun. If the weather is genuinely bad, we will let you know in good time.
Can I join with an injury?
Often you can. Let us know before the class and Bryan will take it into account and adapt exercises for you. Not sure whether it is wise? Do check with your GP or physiotherapist as well.
What if I would rather start one-on-one?
That is possible. With personal training you work one-on-one towards your own goal at your own pace, and you can easily join the group later on.

Would you rather train one-on-one?

Want to work towards a specific skill, progress faster, or start quietly on your own first? With personal training we put together a plan that fits your goal and your schedule.
